Designed by Derek Gardner, the Tyrell 006 was raced by Elf Team Tyrell primarily during the 1973 Formula One season. The design was driven by Jackie Stewart and François Cevert. Jackie Stewart won his third World Championship that year. François Cevert tragically lost his life in when he crashed during practice for the final race of the season at Watkins Glen. Jackie Stewart retired at the end of the season.
The Tyrrell 006 was a lightweight, aluminum monocoque design. The engine was a naturally aspirated, fuel injected Ford Cosworth DFV V8 which produced 450 BHP. The car was quite nimble weighing 1,274 lbs. The low, front intake in the nose was for the water radiator. The oil radiators were side-mounted.
There were three cars of this designed produced. This is my depiction of chassis 006/2 as driven by Jackie Stewart during his win at the 1973 Monoco Grand Prix. It still survives today along with the original chassis 006. Chassis 006/3 was the car Cevert was driving when he crashed and was a total loss.
