Designed as a long range bomber, the B-29 Superfortress was one of the most expensive projects for the United States in World War II exceeding even the Manhattan Project in cost. The B-29 was advanced featuring a pressurized fuselage and remote, computer controlled fire control system for the four defensive turrets. B-29 raids devastated Japan during the final years of the war most notoriously dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This print features B-29 "Million Dollar Baby" with P-38 Lightning escorts during a mission to bomb Iwo Jima in December of 1944.
