Serving with the US Coast Guard from 1951 to 1983, the HU-16E Albatross was affectionately known as "The Goat".
With a range of over 2,800 miles, the Albatross was ideal for day and night search operations locating lost boats, downed aircraft or others in peril. The Albatross was designed optimally to land in open-ocean situations with 4-foot seas.
Albatrosses were used as transports, evacuating injured or sick personnel from remote locations or transporting medical personnel to remote locations.
The Albatross was retired from Coast Guard service in 1983 succeeded by the HU-25 Guardian and HC-130 Hercules.
Albatrosses served with the US Air Force and Navy.
This artwork is my tribute to "The Goat".
