Built in only 56 days and entering service in 1943, the SS Jeremiah O’Brien is a Liberty Ship which served during World War II. During the war the ship made four round-trip crossings of the Atlantic. She was also part of the armada which took part in the D-Day invasion of Europe. Following D-Day, Jerimiah O’Brien served 16 months in the Pacific Theater of operations. The ship was placed in storage after the war and was saved from being scrapped by a group of volunteers who restored the ship in the 1980s. SS Jeremiah O’Brien steamed across the Atlantic to take part in the 50th anniversary celebration of the D-Day landings. This print is a tribute to all those who have served in the Merchant Marine.
