The Flying Sub is a fictional vehicle from the 1960s science fiction television show, “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”. It is carried in a forward hangar aboard the nuclear submarine Seaview. When launched, it is deployed through bomb-bay-like doors from the underside of the nose of the Seaview. The Flying Sub is powered by two nuclear engines capable of propelling the sub underwater as well as aerial flight. The Flying Sub is capable of supersonic speed. This artwork is my tribute to the incredible work of Irwin Allen and his gift for bringing to life the incredible machines, lives and adventures that live in so many of our imaginations.
