Designed and built by North American Aviation, the B-25 Mitchell is a medium bomber which served during World War II. It was operated in every theater of the war and remained in service with the US military for decades after the war ended; the last one being retired in 1960. There were nearly 10,000 B-25s built in many variants including the PBJ-1 patrol bomber for the US Marine Corps.

Utilized primarily from land bases, the primary mission for PBJs was interdiction of enemy shipping. The aircraft was heavily armed with up to 18 machine guns as well as underwing rockets depending on the particular aircraft configuration. This made the airplane a formidable raider. The Mitchell was a very sturdy aircraft and could withstand a lot of punishment.
